His mother, Barbara Arellanes is a 9th generation Californian. Rich was born in Santa Barbara and lived his entire life in Carpinteria. He grew up on 7th St. He went to Aliso School, Main School, Jr. High and High School, SBCC, then Long Beach State College. He has been the Director of the Carpinteria Boy's & Girl's Club for the past 27 years. He oversees all programs, fund raising, etc. He likes his current job because it improves the community and builds better programs for kids.
