Interview with Elizabeth Anne Milne-Kahn.

Elizabeth Anne Milne-Kahn

Were you named after anyone? My grandmother.

Where were you born? Berkley, California.

What are your parent's names? Judy and Paul.

Where did you grow up in? Oakland and Carpinteria, California.

What do you remember about the house that you lived in? It was big, and there was a preschool in the house.

What do you remember most about your childhood? Lots of friends and pets.

What is your background? Eastern European and Canadian.

What is your family background? My grandparents live very close to me. They used to pick me up from school. My mom is a preschool teacher, but she used to be a union organizer. She met my dad when they were both working for the farm workers union with Cesar Chavez. My dad is now a human rights organizer. He works all over the world.

Tell me about your family. My family is really close. I have a sister whose name is Jessica. My parents are divorced.

Who has contributed to your success as a community leader? My parents showed me that it is important to help other people. My teachers always helped me find fun ways to help the community. Because I looked up to my teachers, I wanted to teach, too.

Describe the activities in which you are currently involved. I tutor at Main School two times a week. I love my kids. I also work at Girls Inc. in their after school program. During the summers I also volunteer as a teacher at the summer school.

What path did you take to become a leader? I have always done volunteer work.

What does the term "Civic Leadership" mean to you? It means doing your part in supporting your community.

Could you describe the contributions you have made to the community? For the last four years since I was in seventh grade, I have been teaching children to read, and working at summer schools, camps, and after school programs.

Describe any changes that have taken place since you became a leader. My school has always helped me do community service projects.

Tell me something unusual that has happened to you. I have competed three times in the National Precision Ice Skating Championships.
