Interview With Genet Johannes

What is your full name? Genet Johannes.

Where were you born? Ethiopia.

When did you arrive in the States? When I was 18 years old.

What are your parents' names? My Mother: Trunesh and my Father: Zelleke.

What countries, citites, or states did you grow up in? Addis-Ababa.

What do you remember about the house you grew up in? It was a big house with cows and chickens.

What do you remember most about your childhood? I was a good student and a favorite child to my dad.

What is your background? I have an Ethiopian cultural background.

Tell me about your family. I have a big family, four brothers and two sisters.

What is your family's background, your relatives and their roles in the community? My father was a high court judge. My mother was a house wife. They now run a farm and a hotel.

Are there some people that have contributed to your success? All of my family members, because they all work hard to be successful.

Could you describe your profession to me? I am a tax auditor for the State of California.

Describe the activities in which you are involved. In addition to work, my other activities are home related.

What path did you take to become a leader? Education and experience in life.

What does the term "Civic Leadership" mean to you? Being descent, honest, and respectful.

Could you list and describe any changes that have taken place since you became a leader? Raising a good child so that my child will not be a debt to society. Also contribution of my time helping others as well as giving money when ever I can.

How long have you been involved with the community? 10 years.
