Interview of Rene Mireles

By his 3rd Grade Class

Rene Mireles is a third grade teacher at Main Elementary School. He is 36 years old and he originally comes from Oaxaca, Mexico. He has ten brothers in his family. He has been married for twelve years. His best friend is his wife, Jessica, because they share the same philosophy. He works after school at Santa Barbara City College. For fun he likes to play tennis, soccer and go for walks. He likes tennis the best because it takes more practice.

He has been teaching for six years. He became a teacher because he wanted to help children. He wants students to work hard because that's the only way they can learn to be responsible and how they will achieve excellence. He has many friends at school because his students are also his friends. They are excellent people and very responsible. He hosts a reading program every month at the Carpinteria Public Library called "Noche de Lectura" where the Spanish-speaking families can come to read and experience literature together. He believes that parents need to realize how important reading is in the lives of children!
